Yanmar YM2500 tractor bush hog

my dad's got this Yanmar YM2500 tractor, and he also uses a 5ft Bush Hog rotary mower with it.

He was totally done with that mower and figured he'd never use it again, but of course, a small job just popped up for it.

Now, on his old Ford 9N, he has this over run clutch for the Bush Hog, yeah that's what keeps the mower from pushing the tractor around when you disengage the PTO.

I checked it out, the clutch won't fit the Yanmar because the splines are different. I asked my dad, he said doesn't want to buy a whole new clutch just for one small job.

So, the big question is, if the Yanmar's Powershift transmission is in neutral, will that Bush Hog still drive the tractor along like it used to do with the Ford before he put that over run clutch on it? He's trying to avoid any surprises out there.

Absolutely, if the PTO is still engaged, that Bush Hog can push the YM2500 even while in neutral, it's similar to what we saw with the old 9N before the ORC came into play. However, the YM2500 is supposed to have an independent PTO.

Just a quick question, does he completely disengage the PTO before shifting into neutral, or does he just drop it into neutral with the mower still running? That'll determine if it creeps or not.

No, it won't. Putting the powershift in neutral stops the mower from pushing the tractor.

If the Yanmar's Powershift transmission is truly in neutral, the Bush Hog shouldn't drive the tractor forward like it did on the Ford, but slight drag or creep could still happen depending on PTO engagement
