Oil filters for 2023 Yanmar YT235

When I first needed to change the oil, I grabbed the only filter I could find that fit, a Fram PH9688. It seemed okay, and the Fram website actually lists it for some John Deere tractors with Yanmar engines, so I figured it was a decent cross-reference. More recently, I picked up a set of filters from Hoye. They claimed their filters had better micron ratings for flow and would prevent the bypass valve from opening, which sounded good. Plus, they were cheaper than the Fram. Turns out, these are actually Baldwin B179 filters.

I compared the specs and for now, I think I'm sticking with the Baldwins. The 18 micron rating is a bit finer, and the 8 psi bypass rating is lower than the Fram's bottom end, which theoretically means it's less likely to go into bypass. The 40 absolute is a bit concerning for true filtration, but it's what I've got for now.

I'm curious to know what oil filters Yanmar YT2 owners run, specifically those who have a YT235? What's also your typical oil change intervals?

I've got a YT235 and have been running baldwin B179s for the past few years, solid filter, no complaints, like you mentioned, the lower bypass pressure is a nice touch and I used to run WIX, but switched over mainly because of the price and availability, the baldwins have been easy to get and haven't given me a reason to switch back.
I typically do oil changes every 100 hours, give or take depending on how dirty the season has been. I don't stretch intervals on these smaller diesels, yunno clean oil is cheap insurance. Haven't tried the fram PH9688 myself, but I've heard mixed reviews on flow rate and bypass quality, so I've just stuck with what works.

Many Yanmar YT2 and YT235 owners use Baldwin like @Astranger09 here or genuine Yanmar filters for reliable filtration, and your reasoning about micron and bypass ratings makes sense. Typical oil change intervals vary, but most stick to around 100-150 hrs of operation or annually, whichever comes first, while keeping an eye on engine conditions and usage.
